Jets Restructure Vernon Gholston’s Contract
ESPN’s Rich Cimini is reporting that the Jets and Vernon Gholston have agreed on a restructured contract. Vernon Gholston was set to earn a $1.9 million base salary this season, but the terms of the reduced contract have yet to be released.
Earlier in the week, head coach Rex Ryan made the announcement that the Jets will be moving Vernon Gholston over to defensive end. Gholston, the 6th overall pick in the 2008 NFL Draft, has been nothing short of a major disappointment for the Jets. Over his two year career, Vernon Gholston has only started four games for the Jets, and has yet to record a sack.
With the Jets set to release RG Alan Faneca tomorrow to save a few million dollars, I doubt that Gholston had much of a say in his contract renegotiation. If Gholston does not take a huge step forward in 2010, his NFL career will be over.
