The Jets Speak with WR Laveranues Coles
According to the NY Post, the Jets have expressed interest in bringing back veteran WR Laveranues Coles. The Jets and Coles spoke this week, but a source close to the situation said that the Jets’ interest is minimal and “nothing is anywhere close to imminent.”
Coles, the 32 year old veteran, played 7 seasons for gang green. Coles was released in March by the Bengals after a mediocre season. Since Coles was released by the Benagls, the Jets would not be bound by the “Final 8/Final 4″ rules, and could sign Coles to whatever contract necessary.
If the Jets decide to bring back Coles, he would likely be Sanchez’s 5th option, behind Jerricho Cotchery, Braylon Edwards, Santonio Holmes, and Dustin Keller. However, Coles could provide some veteran depth and fill in for Holmes’ during his four game suspension.
There are some issues surrounding Coles, specifically with his health. Coles has an extensive history of concussions, and could be one hit away from being forced into retirement. Also, Coles has always been vocal in the locker room, and is not afraid to voice is opinions. Would Coles be content with being 4th on the depth chart? Coles has expressed interest in returning to the Jets, but this was before the Jets traded a 5th round pick for Santonio Holmes.
